Qixingtan Beach: A Stunning Pebble Beach with Breathtaking Views Guide

Qixingtan Beach, located just north of Hualien City, is a unique and picturesque pebble beach renowned for its stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the towering Qilai Mountain range. Unlike typical sandy beaches, Qixingtan is covered in smooth, colorful pebbles, creating a distinctive and visually appealing landscape. The dramatic scenery and refreshing sea breeze make it a popular spot for relaxation, photography, and enjoying the natural beauty of Hualien. The name "Qixingtan" translates to "Seven Star Pond," a reference to a former lagoon that existed in the area. While the lagoon is no longer present, the name has remained, and the beach has become a beloved destination for locals and tourists alike. The beach's proximity to the Hualien Air Force Base also adds a unique element, as visitors can often spot fighter jets taking off and landing in the distance. Visitors to Qixingtan Beach can enjoy a variety of activities, including strolling along the pebble beach, collecting unique stones (though removing large quantities is discouraged), flying kites, cycling along the coastal bike path, and simply relaxing and enjoying the breathtaking views. The beach is also a popular spot for sunrise viewing. Several small cafes and restaurants are located near the beach, offering refreshments and local cuisine. Fresh seafood is a particular highlight, with many establishments serving dishes featuring locally caught fish and shellfish.

Transportation

From Hualien Train Station, take Hualien Bus 105 or 105A to Qixingtan (七星潭). The bus stop is located near the beach. Alternatively, you can rent a bicycle in Hualien City and cycle along the coastal bike path to Qixingtan, which is a scenic and enjoyable way to reach the beach.
